Abstract:

In a survey of ruminants slaughtered in the meat and fish abattoir, Ankara, Turkey, between July 1985 and May 1987, Paramphistomum species were found in 120 of 4822 sheep, 331 of 1252 cattle and 2 of 20 Angora goats. Infection in sheep was greatest in animals from the Erzincan region (12.14%); in cattle, infection was greatest in the Malatya region (60.89%). Infection was highest between January and May. P. cervi and Calicophoron daubneyi were found both in sheep and cattle, but only C. daubneyi was found in goats. Detailed descriptions of both species are given. It is suggested that P. leydeni, previously reported from Turkey, is a synonym of P. cervi.
