Abstract:

When pig urine was applied to paddy fields between rice harvest in Sep. and Feb. of the following year, the NH4-N content of the plough layer increased initially and subsequently decreased rapidly when the NO3-N content increased, however NO3-N was lost through leaching before field submergence. In pot experiments the best time for application of pig urine was 10 d after puddling. Application of pig urine at panicle formation decreased the number of panicles/unit area but increased number of grains/panicle and percentage of filled grain compared with application of PK fertilizer. Continuous application of pig urine for 10 years caused soil swelling, decreasing the volume weight and solid ratio, but the total C, total N, available P, total Cu and total Zn contents and the CEC were increased compared with application of compound fertilizer. Pig urine increased N in percolating water but this could be decreased to some extent by ploughing just after application of urine. Solid residues should be removed from the urine before application.
