Abstract: For 6 weeks 210 broiler chickens were fed on diets containing 50 and 75% raw or processed (autoclaved or boiled) tapioca meal in place of maize. Body weight gain with 50% boiled tapioca meal was higher than with raw and autoclaved tapioca, but not different from controls. Inclusion of 75% raw or processed tapioca reduced (P<0.05) growth. There was no significant difference in feed intake due to processing or level of tapioca. Feed conversion efficiency of control and 50% boiled tapioca diets was comparable and better (P<0.05) tha raw tapioca. Feed efficiency was poorer (P<0.05) at higher levels of raw and autoclaved tapioca compared with controls. Mortality percentage was not affected by any of the treatments.
