Abstract: The hypothesis that ingestion of protein immediately after physical exercise significantly increases exertion-induced uric acid production was tested. During 3 sessions at intervals of 1 week 43 men were given immediately after 2 h physical exercise a buffet meal rich in animal protein, rich in vegetable protein or low in protein in unlimited quantities. Uric acid was estimated in urine during 6 h after the meal. Results showed that there was a significant increase in uric acid after muscular exercise which was not affected by the quantity or quality of protein ingested.
