Document Title: Genes in the field: on-farm conservation of crop diversity.
Abstract: Results of recent research into the economic, sociocultural and environmental variables influencing farmers' attitudes towards maintaining crop diversity on farm are presented. The results are used to explore how farmers need to be supported if they are to be maintained on farm crop diversity. Insights to the viability of using on farm conservation as a tool for conserving agricultural plant genetic diversity are given. The paper is based on research carried out in the Mutoko and Mudzi districts in Zimbabwe.
