Abstract:

Two different multivariate statistical techniques (principal component analysis and cluster analysis) have been applied on 75 commercial beverages (38 sport drinks and 37 energy drinks) considering 14 related nutrition factors (calories, total carbohydrate, sugars, sodium, potassium, magnesium, vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin E, niacin, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, pantothenic acid and thiamine) to put in evidence the presence of homogeneous groups among the considered drinks. Three different groups have been obtained containing, respectively, 51, 7 and 17 beverages, each group characterised by different amounts of particularly meaningful variables.
