Abstract: Experimental acute renal failure was induced in two groups (group II and III) of non-descript dogs by administering gentamicin at 10 mg/kg body weight i.m. thrice daily for 10 days, while group I was kept as healthy control. The dogs of group II were kept as untreated control while the dogs of group III were treated with a herbal product (Nephtone) at 3 capsules twice daily for 56 days. All the dogs were kept on protein restricted diet. Based on the haemato-biochemical changes like TEC, PCV, Hb, total protein, albumin, sodium, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, bicarbonate and GGT, the herbal product was found to be effective in the treatment of renal failure in dogs.
