About the VetMed Resource

VetMed Resource brings together a number of types of information for those working in the field of veterinary medicine and animal health.

1. Abstracts Database

It includes the Veterinary Science Database, a subset of the CAB Abstracts Database that covers all aspects of veterinary medicine. Coverage includes companion animals, equines, food animals, aquaculture species, zoo animals, and wild animals. Compiled by subject specialists, the Veterinary Science Database contains more than 1 million abstracts and citations, with 15,000 records added annually, and increasing numbers of records have linkage to full text original articles. The Veterinary Science Database contains over 30 years of research from over 75 countries it provides an ideal source of information for all aspects of Veterinary Science

To search the Veterinary Science Database click on the box marked Abstracts Database - this will take you to the search interface. Also look at features in the In Brief & In Depth under Database Focus and Prepared Searches to get the best results from searching.

2. Review Articles

VetMed Resource also contains Review Articles. These full text articles in PDF can be accessed by clicking on the Review Articles. Current reviews on all aspects of veterinary medicine are selected from CAB Reviews: Perspectives in Agriculture, Veterinary Science, Nutrition and Natural Resources, which is CABI's online review publication. All review articles have been peer reviewed.

3. In Brief and In Depth

In Brief and In Depth contains different types of articles including brief News items, and more detailed 'Spotlight on' articles. It also contains Prepared searches and Database focus on features to help users search the Veterinary Science Database. All articles are derived from authoritative sources and are tagged to broad subject areas to help retrieve further information.

All In Brief and In Depth articles can be selected by date, or subject key words supplied by editors help users to locate and link directly through to relevant abstracts on the Database. Each referenced article provides direct linkage through to specific abstracts from the Database – giving an effective link to further research information. Browse by date or subject area using the left hand navigation.

4. Animal Health & Production Compendium (AHPC)

The AHPC is a global compilation of knowledge on the health and production of pigs, poultry, cattle, sheep and other ruminants. It covers the dieases and their control, as well as nutrition, breeding, welfare, and husbandry.

4.1  Drugs Database

The Drugs Database from the Animal Health and Production Compendium (AHPC) holds data from the following:

PUBCRIS - Registered Product Database (Australia)


The whole database is searchable using combined index lists of trade and generic names of products. Each set of data is also searchable individually using a variety of search criteria. Three databases, FARAD, Green Book and PUBCRIS are available direct from their publishers on the world wide web. Where a search of one of these databases alone is required and internet connection is possible, it is recommended that the datasets made available on-line are used.

Note that data are presented as supplied; any changes should be communicated to the individual publisher.

4.2. Glossary

The Glossary from the Animal health & Production Compendium (AHPC) contains over 60,000 definitions of veterinary and animal breeding terms.

Calendar lists forthcoming conferences and other veterinary events.
